About James

James is a baritone based in London. This year he joined the company of L’elisir d’amore for Longborough Festival Opera, with whom he previously covered and performed the role of Moralès as well as the role of Lillas Pastia in Carmen. James recently performed the role of Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro for Oxford Touring Opera, Hampstead Garden Opera, Hewletts Opera and Stroud Arts Festival. Throughout the past 4 years, James has been touring many Gilbert & Sullivan roles with Opera Anywhere in some amazing venues, including The Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado in The Mikado, Captain Corcoron in HMS Pinafore, The Major  in Patience and Private Willis in Iolanthe, alongside his all-time favourite, Papageno in Mozart’s The Magic Flute.

Previously James performed the role of Guangrui in the premiere of The Monk of the River as part of the Tête à Tête opera festival. Prior to lockdown, James played Mercutio in Acadian Opera’s Roméo et Juliette and was an emerging artist at Longborough Festival Opera, playing the role of Pane in their acclaimed production of La Calisto, as well as joining the chorus of Anna Bolena. Other recent performances include: Amantio in several productions of Gianni Schicchi, a new work for the Royal Albert Hall and performances with The National G&S Opera Company. Other operatic roles performed include: Bobinet in La vie parisienne, Captain Macheath in Britten’s The Beggar’s Opera, Antonio in Le nozze di Figaro, L’horloge comtoise in L’enfant et les sortilèges and Mr Gedge in Albert Herring

Alongside Opera, James performs in Musical Theatre, Film and TV. Highlights include singing in Tom Hoopers film of Les Misérables and performing in the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony.
